Studded Leather vol. 1
Issue #1 is 48 pages of lavishly illustrated setting information in a gritty fantasy apocalypse.
It opens up with a 4 page comic book laying out the setting's vibe and context, and goes immediately into the playable material, providing 4 new classes of "punks" to play in the city of Steelgrave and beyond.
- The Slinger, raised by secretive clans in the way of the gun, and charged to defend the knowledge with their lives. The Slinger acts as a mix of ranged character and rogue, and comes with tables for weapon malfunctions and repair, making ammunition, and class features.
- The Enforcer, our answer to the classic fighting man with a few twists and abilities.
- The Skelm, Steelgrave's "thief/assassin" class, prized for their back-alley smarts, criminal and scouting skills, and their sixth sense for finding remnants of the old world, complete with in-game mechanics.
- The Artifex, representing the magic user in the setting, all of the Artifex's "spells" have a mechanical explanation and are tied to jury rigged physical objects. Part scrap rat, part scholar, part mad scientist, the Artifex pores of tech manuals and forgotten physics to bend the laws of reality.
Next, the 'zine provides a highly detailed map of the center of the city, done for us by the incredibly talented Ferncliff Studios, with over 30 keyed locations sprawling over more than a dozen pages - each one providing hooks and ideas for adventures and campaigns.
This is followed by several pages of mechanics, tactics and tables to help the GM run the campaign, along with a "pre-made punk" representing each class so you can dive right in to the ugly world of Steelgrave.
Finally, a beautifully illustrated section including heraldry and info on some of the city's major factions, providing more fuel for your making your game here a satisfying and "living" one.
